TICKET TO RIDE

From a District Weekly article running today:

“Get out of the middle of the lane!” is something I’d expect to hear screamed at me when I’m riding my bicycle by a latte-juggling driver on a cell phone who is unaware of CVC 212000 (which states that bicycles have the same rights and responsibilities as other vehicles). But not from Long Beach’s finest.

I ride my bike to work most days. Usually I take smaller streets, even though it means extra stop signs, to avoid vehicle traffic.

I agree with the article (which I think appeared or was linked to on this blog before), but have a question about the picture. Even I get annoyed with cyclists who ride double file. Certainly the cyclist on the left is not riding as close as "practicable" to the right. I was wondering what other cyclists thought of this...

(BTW, I do realize that the photo may have been chosen by someone other than the article's author...)

Riding two-abreast is completely legal.

It's a long article, so I'll sum it up for you: If the lane isn't wide enough for two cyclists to ride side-by-side, there is no way it is wide enough for a cyclist and a car.
