We don't hate bikes, we don't mind bike-riding, it's just that we're not a big fan of going to work in the first place and we feel there's no sense in throwing additional hurdles between our home and the workplace. Plus, while it's nice to dawdle en route to the plant, we're generally in a big, 65-mph hurry to get home.
Continues Roca: "I and some people from the bicycle advocacy group I am a part of would love to ride your commute with you and perhaps show you some tips and techniques to make it more enjoyable."
Thanks, Russ, but an enjoyable bike ride makes for a lousy column.

So apparently good news is actually bad news? Sorry Tim, I'd much rather read about an awesome bike ride (that's why "we" subscribe to Adventure Cycling) as opposed to some giant baby that doesn't know how to properly ride in traffic.
My response...
Mr. Grobaty,
You know what makes for a lousy column, lousy information. How about not "make a big deal out of things" and "blow things out of proportion" and write a column with useful information. You may not enjoy your commute but there may be readers out there who might and haven't thought of trying. Instead of complaining about it and giving a negative slant to commuting maybe you could say, "It's not for me..." but provide useful information with commuting tips, commuting routes, rules of the road and how drivers can better deal with cyclists. Do drivers honk or yell at slower moving school buses or garbage trucks?
This isn't a blog about 'boo-hoo, my tough day of riding' but an opportunity to provide information about "Bike to Work Day". If you, as a journalist, want to "make a big deal out of things", maybe you can write a story about how the Octomom now has to commute with eight little trailers to the hospital and back because she can't afford the gas. Or if you need to "blow things out of proportion" you could say that a group of cyclists are riding around town spreading swine flu. Maybe either of those would make a better column.
Thanks for writing a "column" where you appear to be unwilling and uninterested in finding an alternate angle to a story or gathering more information to add to a story but feel the need to tell us you sometimes don't want to drive across the street and you feel too lazy to walk there.
Scott
